Burleson County Tribune • Four Caldwell High School volleyball players are charged with felony indecency with a child in connection with a September incident on a Caldwell bus passing through Milam County. Milam County sheriff’s deputies are handling the investigation, and the case has been referred to the Milam County District Attorney’s Office. Those charged include Sophie Goodman, 17, Katherine Hart, 18, Katie Hartman, 17, and Marina Brinkman, 17, all of Caldwell, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office. The four are charged with forcibly removing another player’s clothing on Sept. 21 while on a bus ride back from a volleyball game at Little River-Academy according to a probable cause statement by the Milam County Sheriff’s Office. The case has sparked criticism and outrage from Caldwell ISD’s parents and students including two student walkouts at Caldwell High School last week, a protest at Davidson Creek Park and numerous Facebook posts. They are protesting the school district’s handling of the incident.

A choir made up of singers from across the county has been practicing for a special service of Bible lessons and Christmas carols at St. James Episcopal Church Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. The lessons and carols begin with creation and end with the birth of Christ. All are welcome at this unique service. St. James is located across Travis Street from H.E.B. in La Grange. St. James choir director Don Kirby will conduct and Mary Ann Hatfield will play the organ and the piano. There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to sing.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered a stolen skid steer on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25. They also arrested two teens suspected of stealing the machine. According to a report from Sheriff Keith Korenek, officers received information about a Takeuchi skid steer that was taken from property on US Hwy. 77 near La Grange. The report said Deputies Rick Martell and Michael Krenek responded to property on Blankenburg Ln. off FM 609.

The folks at Cornerstone Dental donated tooth brushes and toothpaste to be given to kids along with toys as part of the Deputy Santa program. A man wanted by Navasota Police for a murder that occurred there last month was arrested in Schulenburg on Nov. 30.

St Barnabas’s Church in Bellville will resume its annual Advent Festival of Lessons & Carols on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m., Dec.12. The greater community of Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Washington and Waller Counties is invited to join the communicants of St. Barnabas’s Anglican Church, located at 237 West Austin St. in Bellville, for the resumption of the parish’s annual tradition of the celebration of the Festival of Advent Lessons & Carols, an adaptation of a service of nine lessons and carols created in 1880 by Bishop Benson of Truro in the county of Cornwall, England, originally to be used on Christmas Eve.

The St. Rose of Lima Catholic School family donated 374 lbs. of non-perishable food to the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry, and eleven Thanksgiving food baskets to the Family Crisis Center, at their annual Thanksgiving Mass held on Thursday, Nov. 18.
