Weimar ISD Band Places Fifth at State

• The Weimar High School Marching Band made school history by advancing to the University Interscholastic League State Marching Band contest held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Out of the 18 Class 2A bands who performed at state, Weimar was one of seven bands who advanced out of the preliminary round Tuesday morning and performed at 9 p.m. Tuesday night in the finals. The band finished in fifth place.

• The Giddings High School cross county boys team made school history on Saturday when they placed eighth at the UIL State Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. This is the highest boys team finish in the history of Giddings cross country program. Kayden Bloodworth, only a junior, was the highest finisher for Giddings, individually placing 32nd with a time of 16:46.70 in the 5K race.
Lexington Leader • The City of Lexington sent
• The City of Lexington sent out a notice on Monday, Nov. 8, stating that Well #6 had experienced a pump or system failure. The City asked customers to take the necessary actions to use water as efficiently as possible. The failure triggered a Stage 5 Emergency Water Shortage notice, Where the City sited conditions that may have caused the failure, including major water line breaks, or pump or system failures, which cause unprecedented loss of capability to provide water service. As a result, the City is prohibiting the following until further notice: the filling, refilling, or adding of water to swimming pools, wading pools, a Jacuzzi-type pools; irrigation of landscaped areas; and use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane or other vehicle. The City will also cease the flushing of all fire hydrants until the well failure is resolved.

• The Gonzales County Commissioners Court decided Nov. 8, to take a decision on designating a 2,753-acre area near Harwood Rd. as a tax abatement reinvestment zone for Starling Solar LLC. Starling Solar, a division of Apex Clean Energy out of Charlottesville, Virginia, is looking to build a 1,400-acre, 120-megawatt alternating current photovoltaic generation facility - commonly known as “solar far” - with a total investment expected to exceed $138 million. Representatives with Apex Clean Energy who were present for Monday’s meeting said the Starling Solar LLC project is expected to generate enough energy to power more that 28,000 homes per year. The facility would also create parttime and full-time jobs during construction and operation of the solar farm.

• Chad Butler resigned from his position are Wharton ISD’s athletics director this week after serving student athletes for a decade. Butler turned in his resignation to WISD’s Humand Resources Tuesday. Bridget English, WISD’s public relations coordinator, said Butler submitting his resignation has nothing to do with the Oct. 8, incident that involved student athletes and an assistant coach allegedly getting into an altercation during halftime of the Bellville game. Besides being the athletics director, Butler was also the head football coach. The last two years the varsity team finished 0-20.
