Who’s gonna feed them hogs? It’ll be Mike Anders for now. Fayette County Judge candidate Dan Mueller told the Record on Tuesday that he will temporarily step away from hosting his popular music programs on KVLG/KBUK radio.

Heavy rain on Monday contributed to at least six vehicle crashes around the Fayette County that day. Four of them took place on Interstate 10, and three of those happened within a minute of each other, including a hit-and-run.

Fayette County folks are bracing for a blast of severe winter weather this week. La Grange, Fayetteville, Schulenburg and Round Top-Carmine schools were closed Thursday, with Friday class status undecided at press time. The temperature is expected to drop below freezing late morning Thursday Feb. 3. At that same time there is a 60-percent chance of freezing precipitation. The temperature was then going to stay below freezing all day Thursday and Friday morning, briefly climb to the mid-30s Friday afternoon before dropping below freezing again Friday night and Saturday morning. A number of local events have been postponed, including Thursday’s Rotary Pancake supper and the LG Chamber banquet. Both were moved back a week to next Thursday.

Worldwide, cases of the Omicron Variant COVID-19 cases are falling but still remain at record high levels in certain countries. A new sub-variant of Omicron “BA.2” has been identified in several locations that are still experiencing a high case count.

The Kyla Faith Memorial donated $1,500 to Schulenburg Junior High last week. The money will be used to support mental health and suicide awareness in the junior high and high school.
