Annual Classic Car Show Feb. 12 in Carmine
The 8th annual Carmine Sweetheart Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 on the south side of Hwy 290. It opens at 8 a.m. and the display will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Everyone is cordially invited to come for a fun day and show off your favorite classic(s) or enjoy seeing all of the older vehicles.

RT-C School News
Round Top-Carmine High school girls and boys’ basketball teams play at Fayetteville Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. They host Dime Box Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.
Souper Bowl of Caring
Lutheran Youth Organization of Martin Luther Lutheran Church will collect for the Souper Bowl of Caring on Feb. 12 and 13 for the annual fundraiser for local food pantries. Proceeds will be given to A.M.E.N. in La Grange.
WELCA Group Meets
The WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Unit of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall with seven members present – Diana Wunderlich, Carol Carmean, Nancy Eilers, Leonita Sanders, Susan Ray, Barbara Jacob, and Joys Baird. The group recited the Purpose and Mission Statements.
Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with prayer.
The minutes and treasurer’s reports were approved.
Mission Community: There were no nursing home parties or holy communion visits in 2021. Changes to the funeral serving lists have been made and are in the 2022 Yearbook.
Mission Growth: 2021 Salad supper was cancelled due to COVID. A committee of Diana Wunderlich, Leonita Sanders, Susan Ray, and Nancy Eilers will work on a program for the 2022 WELCA Banquet. If we can have it, the date and what to serve will be decided later.
The Thankoffering Service was held Nov. 14. Colette Wunderlich prepared “A Service of Gratitude” of readings from Psalms and songs with music by the Praise Team. Turkey and Dressing meal was served as to-go only from the Mission and Ministry Building. There were 350 plates without desserts served. The leftovers were served at the Advent meal on Dec. 15.
The Thankoffering and meal are planned for Nov. 13, 2022. Plans are for a drive-through and have desserts.
As many WELCA yearbooks as possible will be handed out and then possibly mail the rest at the end of January.
The 2023 Yearbooks will be planned by Nancy Eilers and Joys Baird in October or November.
Mission Action: Quilting continues monthly for LWR.
For the Nov. 6, 2021 Lutheran World Relief shipment, 25 boxes containing 10 Baby Care Kits; 86 Personal Care Kits; 30 School Kits; 105 Quilts; and $20 for shipping were taken to Zionsville by Tim Sanders and Jason Schroeder.
Twenty-six quilts were taken to Camp For All on Jan. 5 by Nancy Eilers.
A.M.E.N. Ingatherings are in February, May, August, and November. They are delivered to La Grange by Brick Peele.
Kits for Lutheran World Relief are collected during the year: January-Baby Care Kits; May-Fabric Kits; July-School Kits; and October-Personal Care Kits.
Collection of cancelled postage stamps continues. They are taken to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Warda, where they trim stamps, and sell them with proceeds to LWR.
Cindy Weidemann is leader of the Lydia Group. Boo Goolsby is in charge of the wall of crosses.
The group decided to give $300 to the LYO for the Souper Bowl of Caring.
Bold Women’s Day is the 4th Sunday in February and World Day of Prayer is March 4, 2022. No information has been received about the Brazos Cluster Spring and Fall meetings.The 12th Triennial and a Gathering is proposed for the week of Sept. 18, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mother’s Day Upbring collection is May 8.
Diana Wunderlich will continue ordering coffee and Leonita Sanders will purchase the kitchen supplies.
Ladies were encouraged to donate to the new Praise and Celebrate Community Youth Night for grades 3-12. RaChelle Kuecker and Shelby Vaughn are the leaders.
Thank you notes were read from the family of Jesse McDaniel for serving at his funeral and from Camp For All for the 26 quilts taken there.
The meeting was adjourned and the Rebekah Group meeting followed.
Carmine VFD
Carmine Volunteer Fire Department Drill Night will be held Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
The department reminds residents who live both within and out of the city limits to place house numbers where they can be readily seen from the road even at night.
Carmine C of C Mixer
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Mixer and Awards Night on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. This year it will be held at Paw Paw’s Firehouse Café on Hwy. 237 at Hills Rd. RSVP by text to (979) 451-1507.
MLLC News
Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Confirmation class meets Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.
Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion observing the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany is at 10 a.m. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.
Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.
Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean No. 1 and No. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.
The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
Visitors’ Center
Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
