Tri-County Softball Umpires Association, a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO), hosted a 2022 Regional Umpires’ Clinic in Hallettsville on Jan. 22. A good number of TASO officials attended from different parts of Texas. There were members from Fort Bend, Sabine-Neches, Victoria, Bryan-College Station, El Paso, and the host, Tri-County.

Julia Patterson of Round Top has made the Liberal Arts Dean’s List at Texas A&M University. This recognition is based on successful completion of at least 15 graded credit hours with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Patterson was the 2020 Valedictorian of Round Top- Carmine High School. Patterson is the daughter of Randall and Linda Patterson of Round Top.

Second Chance Emporium recently donated $1,000 to the La Grange Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (LGCPAAA). Monies donated will be used to purchase uniforms for the new recruits. The LGCPAAA provides services for the public to support the City of La Grange Police Department. The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce sponsored a homemade chicken noodle soup lunch on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Ellinger Community Center. In addition to the many kettles of delicious soup there were homemade chicken salad sandwiches and desserts available. The Chamber prepared 250 gallons of soup and they sold out.

Schulenburg/Weimar Parents as Teachers Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent-education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age five. Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators specially trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how, and why advice for families.

Kelley Brigham, a 4-H member from La Grange captured Angus Reserve Intermediate Heifer Champion with KSC Blackcap 20110 ET at the 2022 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Jan. 23. The 2022 Show is hosting junior exhibitors from across Texas competing for awards and more than $5,450 in Angus Heifer premiums. With 4-H and FFA members from 239 of Texas’ 254 counties competing in livestock shows, judging contests and other competitions, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo takes pride in providing learning opportunities in agriculture and livestock production. Their experiences not only enlighten them on the importance of stewardship and helping feed the world, they help provide the means to attend college and enter exciting career paths. “Of everything we do, opening the minds of these amazing youth to the important role livestock production serves for the benefit of society is probably at the top of the list,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Bradford S. Barnes. “With each passing Stock Show, I’m more convinced that the future is in good hands, especially when it comes to instilling character in our youth and the role they’ll serve in securing our nation’s food supply.”

The Rural Non-Profit Networking Group (RNNG) is an opportunity for the organizations that do so much good in our rural communities to share their missions and visions, discuss community needs and partnership opportunities, bring in experts to facilitate growth and professionalism, and simply connect to maximize the efficiency and impact that participants can bring to Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca and surrounding counties. Since reactivating post-pandemic shutdown, the group is more energized than ever, back to meeting monthly, and incorporating an educational aspect into each gathering.
