The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management, the Fayette County Firefighters Association, and Fire Chiefs across the county urge all residents and visitors to use the upmost caution to avoid setting fires. Fireworks, sparks from mowing equipment, and any open flame can start a fire easily during a drought. Aerial fireworks such as “roman candles”, “bottle rockets”, “artillery shells”, “missiles” or any other firework that can travel in the air can pose an even greater danger. Loss of property and loss of life are possible without due caution.

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber wants the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to hold a public hearing in La Grange over proposed amendments to a wastewater permit for the Fayette Power Project.

Saturday at the La Grange City Cemetery, a Texas Ranger Cross Memorial Dedication Ceremony was held for former Texas Ranger and T.J. “Jim” Flournoy who was also the Sheriff of Fayette County from 1945-1981.

The name and owner are different, but those are the only changes locals may notice at the car dealership formerly known as La Grange Ford.

Last Tuesday the dealership officially became “Alpha One Ford.”

“Even though the name has changed, we still have the same staff, offer the same great service and we plan to still be very involved in the community,” said Internet and Marketing manager Natalie Hernandez.

The new owner is Michael Handwerger, who also owns Rockdale Chevy and a luxury used car dealership in Austin.

Fayette County Commissioners continued work on next year’s budget at a meeting on Thursday, June 23. Some recent changes in state law provided counties with a little extra time to work on their budgets this year.

They call themselves the “hanger hounds.” On sale days at Second Chance Emporium, these volunteers prowl the aisles of clothing that fill a third of the nonprofit shop. As customers pull a fancy dress or a Carhart shirt off hangars, the hounds are there to collect the empties.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners ‘Kids Kamp’ started this week at the Fayette County Ag Building in La Grange. On Tuesday, June 21, the kids learned about different types of garden soil from Master Gardener Steve Sheek.
