Legendary Sheriff Honored for His Ranger History

Saturday at the La Grange City Cemetery, a Texas Ranger Cross Memorial Dedication Ceremony was held for former Texas Ranger and T.J. “Jim” Flournoy who was also the Sheriff of Fayette County from 1945-1981.

The welcome was given by Fayette County Judge Joe Weber. Fayette County Sgt. Charles Jobb and Deputy Terry Guentert lead the Pledge to the US Flag and Pledge to the Texas Flag. An invocation followed by Pastor John Reasons.

Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4 Dan Mueller welcomed the dignitaries before Sheriff Keith Korenek followed with the biography of Sheriff Jim.

Retired Texas Ranger Joe B. Davis spoke about the Former Texas Rangers Association. The cross unveiling was then conducted by the Fayette County Deputies. This was followed by a moment of silence and reading of the Ranger Prayer by Retired Texas Ranger K.W. Fricke. The ceremony was concluded by the playing of Taps by Don Allphin. Special guest at the ceremony was former Texas Governor Rick Perry.
