The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners ‘Kids Kamp’ started this week at the Fayette County Ag Building in La Grange.

On Tuesday, June 21, the kids learned about different types of garden soil from Master Gardener Steve Sheek.

The also started an experiment involving food coloring and carnation cut flowers. The students placed the cut flowers in cups of water with food coloring. Throughout the week, the students watch as the carnations change color. The experiment demonstrates how plants absorb water and nutrients.

On Wednesday, the campers learned about water and erosion. The camp is set to conclude on Thursday with cricket races involving some small motion-detecting cars.

Look for more on the races in Tuesday’s paper.
