Feral Hog Trapping Program July 8

The feral hog population causes extensive economic losses to Fayette County Agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage. With this in mind, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Fayette County and Fayette Farm Bureau in cooperation with the Fayette County Commissioner’s Court will be hosting a feral hog trapping program on Friday, July 8, at the Fayette County Agricultural Building located at 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange. This program discussion is on the Pig Brig traps that were purchased by Fayette County through donations from Fayette County Farm Bureau.

Shelter Offering Discount Vouchers

As of June 24, the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter has 105 animals in care: 46 dogs/59 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

FEC Annual Meeting Video Presentation Set for July 20

In March, when it was time to start planning this year’s annual meeting, Fayette Electric Cooperative’s board of directors was again faced with many uncertainties about the different COVID-19 variants and what that would mean for the co-op and FEC’s members by the time July came around. With those things in mind, FEC has decided to forgo our normal in-person gathering and hold our meeting as an annual meeting video presentation on Wednesday, July 20. We know how much our members enjoy the in-person experiences of our normal annual meetings and we hope to return to those next year.

Round Rock Man Injured After Overpass Fall

A man from Round Rock suffered serious injuries after either jumping or falling from an overpass bridge in La Grange Tuesday night, June 28. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said the episode began with a vehicle crash on State Highway 71 Bypass around 9:33 p.m.

Fashion Fling Returns to Round Top to Benefit Hospice Brazos Valley

After a two-year haitus because of COVID, the Fashion Fling benefitting Hospice Brazos Valley returned Saturday to Round Top, this time in a new venue, The Compound. Donors buy tables and they decorate them very lavishly to enjoy a catered lunch with their friends. The event culminates with a fashion show in which local models showcase resale purchases from either Second Chance Emporium in La Grange or the Brenham Hospice Boutique resale shop. After each model was announced their clothes were described and then the total cost of the clothes was announced, with each outfit costing usually just a few dollars. The finale was Nicole Woods (granddaughter of co-chair Grace Fruge) wearing a second hand wedding dress that cost $15. Photos by Jeff Wick
