Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of July 3-9. Animal Complaint On July 3, Officer Juan Castilleja responded to the 600 block of Upton in reference to an animal complaint in the 500 bock of Baumgarten.

Youth Vote in Mock Texas Animal Election

What candidate do you think should be named “Best Texas Animal?” Young people had the opportunity to participate in the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas’ “Best Texas Animal” election at the July 11 Bridge meet and greet community festival at the KC Hall in Schulenburg. All were enthusiastic voters, reviewing the qualifications of the four candidates – the longhorn, deer, jackrabbit, and armadillo before indicating their choice on a ballot and dropping it into the ballot box.
Brieyelle Moore, a soon-to-be fifth-grader at Schulenburg Elementary School, casts her ballot for the longhorn in the League of Women Voters’ Texas animal election.

LG Study Club Tours Museum

The La Grange Study Club toured the recently remodeled Fayette Heritage Museum Archives as a part of their summer recreation project for the month of July. Pictured are Brigitte Mesecke, Carol Gigot, Jeanette Huelsebusch, and Barbara Schellberg. The Club meets at 2 p.m. on the second Friday of each month in the small meeting room at the Fayette County Extension Building on Svoboda Lane. Their main focus is to make small blankets to support CASA and the Child Welfare Board.

Propane Tanks Pop in the Heat – By Design

Monday afternoon, Flatonia Fire and Rescue responded to a residence after the relief valve on a propane tank popped open due to the hot outside temperatures. Propane gas is stored in cylinders under pressure, and the pressure increases as the outside temperature rises.
