Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of July 3-9. Animal Complaint On July 3, Officer Juan Castilleja responded to the 600 block of Upton in reference to an animal complaint in the 500 bock of Baumgarten.

The Central Texas Food Truck will be at the parking lot of the Waldeck Lutheran Church this Saturday, July 16 from 10-11 a.m. It’s drive-thru distribution and will follow all CDC guidelines.

What candidate do you think should be named “Best Texas Animal?” Young people had the opportunity to participate in the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas’ “Best Texas Animal” election at the July 11 Bridge meet and greet community festival at the KC Hall in Schulenburg. All were enthusiastic voters, reviewing the qualifications of the four candidates – the longhorn, deer, jackrabbit, and armadillo before indicating their choice on a ballot and dropping it into the ballot box.

The La Grange Study Club toured the recently remodeled Fayette Heritage Museum Archives as a part of their summer recreation project for the month of July. The Club meets at 2 p.m. on the second Friday of each month in the small meeting room at the Fayette County Extension Building on Svoboda Lane. Their main focus is to make small blankets to support CASA and the Child Welfare Board.

Camp Shakespeare The Camp Shakespeare performances of Macbeth on July 15, 16, and 17 have been canceled due to COVID. Community Sale The Rotary Club of La Grange will be hosting a community garage sale at the Historic Casino Hall benefiting La Grange Police Officer Curtis Zwahr.

Volunteer firefighters in Fayette County had a busy Monday, July 11. The massive Dry Rice Fire in Colorado County south of Columbus led officials there to call for help from dozens of surrounding agencies.

The La Grange City Council hired an executive search firm to help them select the next City Manager. La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn announced earlier this year his plans to retire.

Monday afternoon, Flatonia Fire and Rescue responded to a residence after the relief valve on a propane tank popped open due to the hot outside temperatures. Propane gas is stored in cylinders under pressure, and the pressure increases as the outside temperature rises.
