Boot Camp Offered for Free to Students Enrolled in ACCSS Partner Schools

The Blinn College District and the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar ISD’s recently launched a new partnership designed to increase high school dual credit completion and establish seamless pathways toward postsecondary awards and industry credentials. The Alliance for College and Career Student Success (ACCSS) in South-Central Texas partners collaborate to advise students regarding their college and career pathways, including technical and career training options.

Animal Shelter Update

As of Oct. 14, a total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1,170: 527 dogs and 643 cats in need. The shelter currently has 120 animals in care: 68 dogs, and 52 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner. Spay and neuter is the only way to manage the unwanted dog and cat population in Fayette County. The shelter offers a discount voucher program for the citizens of Fayette County for the spay/neuter of family pets. Call (979) 966-0021 for more information. The Fayette County Firefighter’s Association reports the following calls for the week of Oct. 9-15: Smoke Reports - 2 Grass Fires - 6 Medical - 7 Accident - 1 Gas Leak/Odor - 1 Wash Down - 2 Illegal Burn - 1.

Turtle Wing Monster Dash Oct. 22

It’s time to break out your costume ideas and welcome in the Fall with family fun at the 10th Annual Turtle Wing Foundation Monster Dash. This year it will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 5-7 p.m. with activities happening at Jack & Mary’s 610 Lyons Ave., Schulenburg or on Anderson St. just south of their yard. There is no charge for any of the fun. Costume Contest, Boo Around the Block, and the Dash itself are all free of charge. Monster Dash Timeline:
