CattleWomen Donate Beef to Local Food Pantries

Summer is traditionally grilling season, though for many of those who live in Texas grilling season is year-round! This summer the Navidad Valley CattleWomen celebrated grilling season by donating 220 pounds of ground beef to area food pantries. As the economy makes grocery shopping more challenging each week, ground beef can still be incorporated as a healthy and affordable protein source that will always bring a smile to the family members who get to enjoy it.

Three Acres Burn in Swiss Alp

About three acres of pasture burned near Swiss Alp on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department received a call reporting the grass on Ohnheiser Kaase Rd. around 11:30 a.m. They responded with two grass trucks and a tanker. Upon arrival, they found a field of tall grass on fire. Someone on the property was mowing part of the pasture with a riding lawn mower. The mower caught on fire in the thick grass and started the pasture on fire. Firefighters on the two grass trucks circled the burning field and quickly put out the fire. There were no injuries or major damage other than the mower, which was destroyed in the fire. The fire rekindled that afternoon, and firefighters returned around 1:30 p.m. to put out the remnants.
