Man Arrested for Fleeing Accident
Schulenburg Police arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident early on Thursday morning, Dec. 8, after he allegedly struck an electrical pole.
The crash happened shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
According to a report from the Schulenburg Police Department, a Chevy SUV struck a pole in the 1000 block of Kallus St. The vehicle sustained severe damage. When police arrived, no one was inside the vehicle. A witness told police they saw a man flee the scene in another vehicle occupied by two males. Police found that vehicle parked at a residence in the 1200 block of South St., but it, too, was unoccupied. Another witness told police they saw the occupants get into a white pickup and left “in a hurry.”
Officers found a white pickup matching the description in the 1000 block of James Ave. The officers spoke with several individuals at the residence and identified the alleged driver of the wrecked vehicle.
Police arrested Abel Perez Reyes, 33 of Schulenburg, for failure of duty upon striking a fixture or highway landscape with damages in excess of $200. Reyes was booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said officers believe Reyes fled the scene because was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
