Food Truck
The American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will host their annual Christmas Party on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with a catered meal served at 6 p.m. The Post and Unit members and spouse/guest are invited to attend the festive event honoring and thanking Veterans for their service to our country.
The Central Texas Food Truck will be in Fayetteville on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. There is a change, no drive-thru will be held. It will be park and walk up. Please bring bags and a cart or wagon to get the distribution.
Umpires Meeting
The Tri-County High School Softball Umpires are having their first meeting for the upcoming 2023 Softball Season in the Hallettsville ISD Boardroom on Wednesday, Dec.14 at 6:30 p.m. The group is always looking for new umpires. Consider coming out to the first meeting to learn more about becoming a certified TASO High School Umpire. You may also contact the President, E.L. The Fayette Public Library invites you to their Christmas Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m until 1 p.m. Enjoy beautiful Christmas music performed by pianist Candy Seale and great food. Santa will be there to take pictures and give out little gifts. Children can write a letter to Santa and enter to win a Christmas book basket. Schulenburg Band Winter Concert
The Schulenburg Band will have a winter concert on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Schulenburg Cafetorium featuring beginner, JV band, Varsity Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. The band boosters will be having a silent auction.
Waldeck Mobile Food Truck Changes
The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) has decided to discontinue serving food as a drive-thru format. Starting on Saturday, Dec. 17, the Waldeck food truck will have food distribution as a walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags and boxes. A few wagons will be furnished by CTFB, but if the client has their own wagon, please bring it. Waldeck food truck is on third Saturdays of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. The 2023 dates are: Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, and Dec. 16.
Hermann Sons Life
The Ellinger Hermann Sons Life will be meeting at the Ellinger Fire Station on Monday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.
VFW Post, Auxiliary Christmas Party
Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will hold their annual Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the VFW Post Home beginning with a social at 5 p.m., catered meal of turkey, ham and trimmings at 6 p.m., followed by a brief program with announcement of local Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen contest winners and fundraiser fun too, for the VFW National Home and local Auxiliary.
Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner
The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Christmas dinner and quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Cistern Saints Cyril & Methodius Parish Hall. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and turkey and dressing dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. A short business meeting will follow the meal.
Round Top Family Library Chili Cook Off
The 18th Annual Round Top Family Library Chili Cook-Off will be held Jan. 21 at the Stone Cellar beginning at noon. Enjoy music by the Black Cat Choir. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. Optimist Essay Contest
The La Grange Optimist Club is again holding a scholarship contest with a local cash prize of $500 to the winner. The contest is open to anyone 18-under in Fayette County who has not already graduated. The local winner will advance to the district contest for a chance at a $2,500 scholarship. Essays must be between 700-800 words and be on the topic of “Who is an Everyday Hero that Brings Out the Optimism in You?” Deadline to receive entries is Jan. 31, 2023. Please send the essay along with a cover page that includes name and contact information to La Grange Optimist Club at P.O.
