Shelter Update

Here are the latest stats from the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter: As of June 2, total intake is 696: 365 dogs and 331 cats in need. As of June 2, we have 128 animals in our care: 67 dogs/61 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

City of LG Seeks Proposals for Depositry Bank

The City of La Grange is seeking proposals from qualified financial institutions for a Depository Bank to provide banking services to the City. Additional information is available at City Hall located at 155 E. Colorado, or by calling the office at 979968-5805. All bids must be in a sealed envelope plainly marked “BANK SERVICES BID - ATTN: FINANCE DIRECTOR”, and delivered to the main lobby receptionist at the La Grange City Hall at 155 E. Colorado St., or mailed to the City of La Grange, Finance Director, 155 E. Colorado, La Grange, TX,78945. All bids must be received no later than 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023. The City of La Grange reserves the right to reject any and all bids, or to choose that bid which it deems the most advantageous to the City. (62-2c)

A free sewing workshop class will be held on June 17 for ages 10 to 18 with instructor Cathy Gau. Class size is limited to ten. Students will learn to make a pillow case that they will take home. The library will provide pillowcase kits and sewing machines. A parent or guardian must be present with kids age 10-12. The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (The Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue on Saturday, June 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B A half chicken is $5 and sausage link is $7. The meal is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of St. James Preschool.

City Cemeteries Were Filled With Cattle, Hogs, Weeds and Unmarked Graves Before Local Ladies Stepped Up Board members of the La Grange Ladies Cemetery Association must have lost sleep 45 years ago when they wrestled with whether or not to end their organization’s proud century-old tradition of active civic service.
