Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) is thrilled to announce the opening of its annual Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 5. The event will take place at the ARTS Ross Gallery, located at 114 N. Live Oak St., Fayetteville. This competition is dedicated to showcasing the exceptional creativity of students in grades 6-12, providing a platform for young talent across Southeast and South Central Texas to shine.

The Emerging Artists Competition invites young artists to submit works in any media, including diverse forms like crochet, painting and clay. Lisette McClung, a long-time teacher and artist, will evaluate the submissions. Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entrants in each grade level, as well as for the overall “Best in Show” piece. The exhibition will remain open to the public until Saturday, Aug. 26, offering visitors an opportunity to admire our youth’s artwork. Many thanks to Arne and Mary Le Johnson, the generous sponsors of the Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition.

ARTS, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, believes in the importance of visual and performing arts experiences for children in rural communi-ties. Art fosters holistic development in children, nurturing their creativity, imagination and emotional expression. Through various artistic activities, children enhance fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and cognitive abilities. Art provides a safe outlet for emotional processing and promotes social skills through collaborative projects. Engaging in art empowers children with valuable tools for selfexpression and sets a strong foundation for their overall growth. ARTS is thrilled to offer this art-enrichment annual opportunity to the youth in the region. The organization seeks to recognize the many talents, creative thinking, and expressive voices of those that live here. By doing so, ARTS feels that lives are enriched, stronger citizens are developed and leaders in tomorrow’s markets are grown.

In August, ARTS will open registration for its free Art After School programs in nine communities across the region, nurturing youth and providing opportunities for artistic and personal growth.
