The City of Fayetteville had a very tight race for Place 3 on the City Council. Unofficial results show Todd Campbell defeating John Heimseth by a vote of 34-32. In the other two races, Allen Jurecka was unopposed for Place 1 and Debbie Lincke was unopposed for Place 5.
Fayette County Officials are well aware of the tragic situation that occurred April 25 on private property on Munke Road south of La Grange. The situation was the result of a trail ride and gathering.
Schulenburg ISD had a six-way race to fill three seats on the school board. There were 519 votes cast. Incumbent Hale Hentges won reelection with 354 votes. Joining him on the school board will be two new faces: Lisa Goodlander, who collected 344 votes; and Dwayne Bartek, who collected 300 votes. The other incumbent in the election, Troy Brenek (Schulenburg Chief of Police), came in last with 120 votes. The other two candidates who fell short were Johnnie Demel with 223 votes and Alex Seydler with 180. The third incumbent, Jarrod Schramek, did not run for re-election.
People have come together to help a local family in need. This Saturday the Brent Kovar & Family Benefit Golf Scramble, Pickle Ball Tournament and Dinner and Auction are being held at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club.
The Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange focuses on history and honor with their spring/summer exhibits. They include the juried exhibit “My America…What It Means to Me” to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday; “Hooked On Presidents,” which features hand-hooked rug portraits of U.S. leaders; and “Old Quilts Made New,” a passion project for Teresa Wong. They will be on display April 30-August 29, 2026.
New trial dates have been set for Flatonia Postmaster Micahel McKim and his daughter Kayla McKim, who both face murder charges for the 2023 shooting death of Jason Pilat in Lavaca County. Kayla McKim’s jury trial has been scheduled to begin on June 15 in Lavaca County.
The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter says it will start charging the City of La Grange $120 for each dog and cat that the City’s animal control officer brings to the shelter.
Voters in Fayette County spoke loudly in the municipal and public school elections, which took place Saturday, May 2. La Grange ISD’s $90 million bond election (which called for the building of an indoor practice facility, expansion at the middle school and renovation of the 1923 old high school building among other things) saw the largest turnout.
