The article in Tuesday’s paper about former La Grange City Manager Fred Bell’s resignation incorrectly stated the date of his resignation. He resigned on Monday, Aug.

The Alliance for College & Career Student Success (ACCSS) program was started with an $842,120 grant from Greater Texas Foundation a little over 2 years ago. The program is now working towards building sustainability beyond the 3-year gift that initiated the alliance. ACCSS partner schools currently include Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Columbus, and Fayetteville ISD’s. The program is housed at Blinn College – Schulenburg Campus. These partners collaborate to remove barriers that might impact whether or not a student could participate in dual credit courses while in high school. With the support of regional funders and community investors, increased student support is in place and transportation and the cost of fees and tuition should not be a barrier to students enrolling.

Folks setting up for the La Grange Farmers Market got soaked Saturday morning when the sprinklers on the courthouse lawn came on. One of the vendors, Vergie Hall, said the sprinklers started gushing about 7 a.m.

Two new exhibits of quilts will be on display at the Texas Quilt Museum from August 31-December 23, 2023. First, they’ll pay tribute to the wildly popular series of books by James Herriot as well as the recent smash PBS series with the animal-themed juried show “All Creatures Great and Small.” And they’ll also dip into the amazing archives of quilt collectors and dealers Mary and Joe Koval with “Antique Quilts from the Koval Collection.” All Creatures Great and Small James Herriot was the pen name for the real-life British country veterinary surgeon James Wight (1916-1995).

The dry weather is driving all kinds of critters into our home – especially ants. With so little water outside, bugs try to find moisture indoors The other night my wife Janessa got into bed and ants started biting her. She apparently leaned against the countertop while brushing her teeth and some ants crawled on her. I went to look under the sink and found a trail of ants crawling up the drain pipe from under the house.

Fayette County elected officials recently attended the kickoff meeting for the General Land Office’s (GLO) Regional Mitigation Program in Bastrop. GLO presented on the method of distribution for the mitigation funds the County is slated to receive through the Hurricane Harvey funds.

The current schedules are analyzed and assessed to determine the external market analysis and include pay ranges of peer school districts and the analysis of the district’s ability to be able to recruit, hire, and retain quality employees to positions.
