Fayetteville ISD Asks Voters for Financial Help

This year, Fayetteville ISD and many other school districts are projecting a funding shortage due to legislative inaction during the 88th State Legislative Session and decreased enrollment. For the first time in history, Fayetteville ISD is asking voters to consider approving three cents on its maintenance and operations tax rate to offset the increasing cost of education, a move that the school says would raise an additional $180,000 in revenue for Fayetteville ISD.

The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collector’s (DMV) office will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 19, for training. The office will resume normal business hours on Wednesday, Sept. 20. K-9 Unit Seizes Cocaine

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sunday, Sept. 10, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a 2015 GMC Yukon on Interstate 10 at the 663 mile-marker at approximately 9:20 a.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, Sgt. Thumann observed discrepancies in the driver’s travel itinerary, route of travel and many other familiar indicators of narcotics trafficking. Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann deployed his canine “Kolt” to conduct a sweep of the vehicle. Kolt alerted to the presence of an illegal odor of narcotics emitting from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed an after- market compartment built under the center console. After accessing the compartment approximately 5 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $250,000 was removed. The driver, Jose Puentes, 31 from Brownsville, was arrested for Felony Drug Possession and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.

La Grange, Schulenburg Show Strong Sales Growth

Nine months into 2023, La Grange has already collected more than $2 million in city sales tax revenue. And the county’s second largest city, Schulenburg, passed the $1 million mark this month. Both are all-time records for the nine-month period.
