Governor Greg Abbott signed a wildfire disaster proclamation that covers about three-quarters of the state, including Fayette County. The proclamation allows counties to access state resources to combat the wildfire danger as 100-degree temperatures blanket Texas.

Several months ago, we turned off the answering machine on our home phone to stop (or at least slow down) the barrage of robocalls and telephone solicitors working all sorts of con games. The Amaze fire near the Fayette-Bastrop County Line burned about 63 acres Tuesday, Aug. 15.
