Evasive Action By Drivers Avoids Head-On Collision
A pair of motorists narrowly avoided a head-on collision on US 90 east of Schulenburg on Wednesday after one of the vehicles lost its steering due to a mechanical failure. The other vehicle went off the road and struck a tree. No one was seriously injured.
Trooper Chase Grillet of the Texas Highway Patrol investigated the crash. It happened around 3 p.m. on Jan. 3. Grillet said a 2015 Ford F-350 pickup was heading east on Hwy. 90 between Schulenburg and Weimar. The driver told Grillet that the truck started shaking and swerving from side to side. The driver tried slowing down as he crossed the Middle Creek bridge, but the pickup drifted into the westbound lane.
A black 2019 Cadillac SUV was heading west on Hwy. 90 and swerved to avoid the pickup. The SUV went into the ditch and struck a tree.
The driver suffered injuries that were not life threatening. Fayette County EMS transported the driver to Lavaca County Medical Center in Hallettsville for treatment. The driver and passenger in the Ford pickup were not injured.
Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department, Schulenburg Police and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
