Pileup Behind School Bus Kills One

A pileup behind a school bus unloading kids on SH 71 near West Point ended with one fatality and multiple injuries

Two separate crashes happened around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, in front of the Tuck Stop RV Park just east of West Point. A La Grange ISD school bus had stopped in the westbound outside lane of the highway to unload students at the location. An 18-wheeler pulling a box trailer stopped behind the bus in the outside lane and a black Range Rover stopped in the inside lane.

A massive nuclear reactor vessel blocked roadways and slowed traffic as it crawled through Fayette County Monday, May 6 and Tuesday May 7

Edwards Moving and Rigging of Shelbyville, Kentucky, transported the heavy equipment from Aransas Pass to its destination in Eunice, New Mexico, according to the oversize load permit issued by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. The rig had to traverse the state on a meandering route to avoid sharp turns, weak bridges and overhead obstacles

Myles Pleads Guilty to Murder, Gets 40 Years

Denzale Jydon Myles pleaded guilty for the 2021 murder of Ezrianna Poncik of La Grange

Myles, 31 of La Grange, accepted a 40-year prison sentence before District Judge Jeff Stainhauser on Wednesday, May 8. The killing happened on Sept. 4, 2021 at the Green Acres Apartments just outside La Grange. Myles had been in custody at the Fayette County Jail since that time

Myles was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm in conjunction with the murder charge. He received the maximum two-year sentence for that charge on Wednesday as well.

Math Error Causes Election Day Confusion in Flatonia

An arithmetic error led to the mixup over election results in the Flatonia City Council race last Saturday.

Three people ran for two city council seats in the atlarge election: Josh Homan, Allen Kocian and Joayne Eversole. The City of Flatonia published an election return sheet showing that Homan and Kocian won the election with the following vote totals:

• Josh Homan - 111 • Allen Kocian - 78 • Joanye Eversole - 67

The Rural Nonprofit Networking Group (RNNG), a program of the Fayette Community Foundation, is excited to invite all nonprofit staff and volunteers to join their first quarterly professional development workshop series which will be held on Thursday, May 16. RNNG creates opportunities for the organizations that do so much good in our rural communities to share their missions and visions, discuss community needs and partnership opportunities, bring in experts to facilitate growth and professionalism, and simply connect to maximize the efficiency and impact that participants can bring to Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca, and surrounding counties.

La Grange Police Chief, David Gilbreath reports that on Wednesday, May 1, at 11:50 p.m. La Grange Police Officers Steven Haynie, and Bret Meinardus responded to a call of a female motorist that she was being followed by another vehicle.
