Highway Blazes Keep Local Firefighters Busy

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Thursday morning around 10:49 am a Ledbetter firefighter requested the Ledbetter Fire Department for a truck fire on US Hwy 290 near Lehman Raymond Rd. The Ledbetter Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Seth Nagel. Upon arrival it was reported a Penske box truck was fully engulfed and assistance from Carmine Fire Department was requested. The Carmine Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene. Until the fire was extinguished, US Hwy 290 eastbound was closed. There were no reported injuries. The fire started from the rear axle and tire. The truck was empty of contents.

Student Writes Play Being Performed This Week

Jackson Elliott, a sophomore at La Grange High School, recently wrote a play for the Fayette County Community Theatre which will be performed this weekend. Elliott’s play “Narnia Storbook” will introduce the audience to the magical world of Narnia and serve as a prequel to the second feature, “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” dramatized by Joseph Robinette based on the book by C.S.

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, July 25 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Animal Shelter Update

As of July 12, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 900: 381 dogs and 519 cats in need. As of July 12, the shelter has 142 animals in care: 64 dogs/78 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.
