You have probably heard of the Battle of San Jacinto and how important this event was to the establishment of the Republic of Texas. We know the facts— the battle was fast, lasting only eighteen minutes in total, while the killing went on for hours.

CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of five new volunteers as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Judge Benton Eskew completed the swearing-in on Nov. 19. We have Marc Nash (Elgin), Alisa Brown (Giddings), Darrel Vinklarek (Bastrop), Angel Peltola (Smithville), and Jenny Santini Danysh (Giddings) to congratulate and show our gratitude for their commitments to the CASA cause. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA Volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interest in the child protection system. Torrential rains triggered flash floods across Central Texas over the weekend leaving 12 persons dead and one missing. Rains up to 10 inches hit around Austin, where seven of the fatalities occurred because normally dry streams became vicious rivers that swept cars off the roads. La Grange registered 3.34 inches of rainfall during the period, bringing the year’s accumulation to 44.83 inches, 8.41 inches over the year’s norm. On Monday morning, the Colorado River was at 23.95 feet and still rising.

New Life Methodist Church in La Grange had over 26 booths filled with handcrafted items, quilting, knitting, jewelry, wood crafts, painting, primitive arts and baked goods on Saturday for their Christmas Craft Show. Here are some images of the event.
