The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center, Inc. met on Thursday, Nov. 14, for their Fall Meeting/Luncheon at the Randolph Recreation Center. Sixty-three members and several guests were in attendance. President Phil Oestreich opened the meeting with a welcome. Board member, Larry Jackson, led the group in prayer, and Board member Janet Moerbe led the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Secretary Helen Oestreich read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved as read. Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska gave her report which was filed for audit. Board member Doris Lidiak awarded cash door prizes to 10 lucky members. Board member Liz Tannler gave a report on the Games Day which is held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month; however, none will be held in December, but resuming Jan. 9. Board member Janet Rangel gave a report on the upcoming trip to the Unity Theatre in Brenham on Sunday, December 8 to see the Christmas comedy play “Fruitcakes!”

The Cattle Country Festival, happening April 10-12, 2025 in Gonzales, Texas, just announced Diamond-certified rock band Nickelback as a headliner with support from Gretchen Wilson to round out the 2025 festival lineup.

The Round Top Historical Society is celebrating its 27th Christmas Tour of Homes with the Christmas in Round Top on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m.

My son shot a deer a few weeks ago, and lately we’ve been eating pretty good. My tummy is still full from the carne guisada tacos my wife made last night for supper.

The Czech Oscar-winning historical drama “Brothers” makes its Flatonia and Fayette County premiere on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at The Lyric Theater in Flatonia, preceded by the short film “The Friendly Tavern.”

Feed the Need Mission of La Grange gave away 190 Thanksgiving baskets to local families on Monday, Nov. 25. They distributed the baskets during their regular Monday night hamburger supper on the Courthouse Square in La Grange. The baskets included everything needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Dr. Jeremy Finch of Feed the Need said about 90 volunteers assisted with the drive-through. Feed the Need is a mission to spread the love of Jesus through sharing a hot meal. Pictured above, volunteers pray before distributing the baskets.
