Habitat Casino Night Coming Up

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is excited to announce its inaugural Casino Night fundraiser, set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Historic Casino Hall in La Grange. The event will raise funds to support Habitat’s ongoing mission of building homes and providing hope for families in need throughout Fayette County.

Ground Breaking for Church at Czech Center

The Ground Breaking for the new Brethren Church on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center was held this past Saturday during the annual Heritage Fest. Several descendants of the four original Czech pastors that brought the Brethren faith to Texas, Reverends Barton, Beseda, Heger, and Horak, were on hand for the monumental occasion. Anchor Club Trick-or-Treating For the County Animal Shelter

The Anchor Club of La Grange is sponsoring a month of “Trick or Treating” for Fayette County’s Furry Friends, from Oct. 14-Nov. 11. Donation boxes are set up at Fayette County Vet Clinic and Welch Veterinary Hospital in La Grange to benefit the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter and AniMeals on Wheels, the companion program to Combine Community Action’s Meals on Wheels (addresses the nutrition needs of our community’s homebound citizens). What’s needed? Wet and dry food for dogs and cats (suggested brands include Pedigree, 9 Lives, Meow Mix), treats, kitten food, collars, and specifically for the Shelter: laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels. Kolache Eating Champs at Heritage Fest

At the kolache eating contest at last Saturday’s Heritage Fest at La Grange’s Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, winners were crowned in four divisions, left to right – Zoe Janda in the girls division, Jeff Wick in the men’s division, Chrystal Wick in the women’s division and Alden Raney in the boys division. Far right is Brian Vanicek, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, who ran the contest. Winners were the contestants who ate their kolaches the fastest. The kids had to eat one kolache and the adults ate two. Kolaches were all cherry and provided by Weikel’s, and the contest was sponsored by SPJST.

Seniors to See “Four Old Broads” Comedy Sunday

Thanks to The Fayette County Community Theater, the play Four Old Broads is at the historic Casino Hall in La-Grange. The sold-out matinee performance on Sunday, Oct. 27, has 20 plus Senior Connections members attending. We conclude our fun afternoon with a savory meal from Reba’s Pizza.
A group of high school seniors provided assistance for our seniors with smartphone technology. What a wonderful partnership.

Second Chance Donates to AMEN

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $12,000 to the AMEN Food Pantry. Monies donated will be used to fund special vouchers for clients to purchase turkeys for the holidays. Additionally, SCE donates $3,000 each month to AMEN to support the cost of food provided weekly to their clients. AMEN’s mission is to provide food to needy families in Fayette County.
