The 88th annual Tomato Festival will kick off on Friday, May 23 with a barbeque cookoff and the Chopped Challenge Round 1 Contest. Entertainment will be provided by the Airplane Band from 8-11 p.m. The cookoff continues on Saturday along with a 5K run, tomato toss contest, chopped challenge live cooking contest, raffle and an auction at 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by a DJ. Sunday concludes with a fried chicken and sausage drive through meal starting at 10:30 a.m.

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized Jaeger Witte Cemetery as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors Jaeger Witte Cemetery as an important and educational part of local history.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with a manhunt just across the county line in Lavaca County on Tuesday, May 6. According to a report from the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, deputies there tried intercepting a stolen pickup out of Brazoria County between Shiner and Moulton Tuesday afternoon.
