Eleven La Grange High School seniors-to-be (six girls and five boys) have been selected to attend Boys and Girls State programs this summer and have been sponsored by local civic organizations. Both Boys State and Girls State programs give students a better understanding of how to build consensus through civil discourse and debate as well as give them knowledge of our political system and opportunities to put that knowledge into action. Boys State is being held June 8-13 at UT. Girls State is being held June 15-21 at Texas Lutheran University.

The effects of the Fayette Power Project were expected to be manifold, involving not only the displacement of some 70 landowners from 6,300 acres and the impact of 1,500 or more construction workers on site but also spurring social, economic and environmental changes in the county. LCRA planned to convene a meeting with the contractors’ representatives and local community leadership so Fayette County would know what to expect. An environmental assessment required by the federal Environmental Protection Agency was also planned. A New York-based company was the low bidder at approximately $18 million to build the Cedar Creek dam and baffle dikes, level the plant site, construct rail and road spurs, prepare the pump station site and lay a 48-inch pipeline from the Colorado River.

Camryn Smith of La Grange graduated high school on May 8, 2025, in a class size of 143 students from The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science in Denton. Camryn received Highest Academic Distinction with a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

A juvenile has been arrested after slashing tires at three residences in the Cistern-area Sunday night. After being apprehended by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, the youth was sent to a juvenile detention facility.

Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host their fourth annual Bluff SchuetzenFest celebrating German heritage and Texas brewing history on Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For years John and Wendy Rohan have dreamed of bringing a brewery and restaurant to downtown La Grange. When that initially didn’t work out, they instead started La Grange Brewing Company in 2019 at their Blissful Folly Farm near Nechanitz, adding home-brewed beer to an already robust rural mead and wine operation.
