New Turtle Wing Programs in LG And Schulenburg

Turtle Wing Foundation has been busy at work partnering with new businesses and organizations to create opportunities for Turtle Wing kids throughout Fayette, Lavaca, and Colorado counties. Here is a list of new opportunities and how to register for the Spring.

Fayetteville Country Christmas Celebration is Saturday, Here are Details You Need to Know

The annual Country Christmas celebration is finally here. The event, held by the Greater Fayetteville Chamber this Saturday, includes a visit from Santa in the old fire station in his room next to the annual Christmas Tree Display. He’s stopping by with goodie bags for all from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and taking a brief break to pop into the parade at 6 p.m. Kids from ARTS and the community choir will sing throughout the square beginning at 5 p.m. Don’t forget to join in the Lighted Parade with your boat, bike, four-wheeler, antique car or just yourself. Line up at 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Fayette Hotel.

Join La Grange Methodist Church for fellowship on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5-7 p.m. Turkey will be served and you bring the sides. Teresa Stanley-Brown from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be speaking about the needs and care of the animals that are waiting for adoption. Bring something for the furry friends and help the local animal shelter. Items needed for dogs include Purina or Pedigree dry adult and puppy food (15-20 lb. bags or smaller), Pedigree canned adult dog fooddog treats, medium or large dog collars. Items needed for cats: 9 lives, Meow Mix, Friskies dry adult cat food (15-20 lb. bags or smaller), cat litter, toys. Supplies needed include paper towels, toilet paper, dishwahser detergent, antibacterial wipe, or Fabuloso.

Schmeckenfest Draws Thousands to Downtown LG for Holiday Fest

The 15th annual Schmeckenfest was held in downtown La Grange Thursday (it’s always the first Thursday of December) and one of the biggest crowds in the history of the event showed up. The weather was clear with just a touch of chill, making for perfect conditions for the sampling of the 32 wassail booths spread out around the courthouse square.

La Grange Poised to Hire One of These Four as City Manager

The City of La Grange released the names and resumes of five finalists for the City Manager position last week. The Record requested the names under the Texas Public Information Act after the City Council selected the candidates two weeks ago.

Ellinger Hopes $1.4 Million Plan Fixes Water Woes

County Judge Joe Weber invited Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District Manager David Van Dresar to the Commissioners Court meeting on Nov. 23 to discuss the issue.
