LHS Honor Grads Named at Ceremony

While some area school announce their honor grads (Top 10-percent) prior to graduation, La Grange keeps the suspense going until the ceremony. At Thursday’s graduation, Riley Lowe was officially announced as the valedictorian of the Class of 2025.

Quilt Guild Meet Colorado Valley Quilt Guild’s annual meeting/workshop for the Charity Quilts has arrived and is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27. Guild meeting held at 10 a.m. and workshop immediately proceeding. Lunch provided. Feel free to bring a sewing machine to help piece some beautiful springtime quilt tops. If not, bring yourself as pressers, cutters and organizers are always needed. All the quilt top fabrics have been donated, feel free to come and see what making one of the charity lap quilts is all about. The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl Street, Room A East, La Grange. Guild meetings begin at 6 p.m. on even months and 10 a.m. on odd months. 130 Get Diplomas as Part of LHS Class of 2025

One hundred and thirty La Grange High School graduates walked across the stage at Leopard Stadium to receive their diplomas Thursday night, May 22. The class walked out onto their field amid cheers from a packed stadium, just as the sun was setting.

La Grange Leo Club Welcomes New Officers

Pictured from left to right are the new Leo Club officers from 2025-2026 school year: Vice President Mitchell Cervantez, Treasurer Myriah Holmes, President Natlia Soto, and Secretary Deacon Wick. Lion Mark Ulrich (right) inducted the new officers and explained their roles. Leo clubs encourage youths to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities. They are dependent on a Lions club to sponsor and initiate a Leo club. Leo club members are addressed as “Leos.” They conduct various projects in the fields of health care, elders, children, disabled people, literacy and education, and self-development. Leos can raise funds by conducting fund-raising projects. They can conduct projects with another Leo club, sponsoring Lions club, or with an outside organization. Leo clubs are sponsored by Lions clubs and comprise an official program of Lions Clubs International.

KJZT St. Anne’s Society No. 10 Meets

The meeting of the KJZT St. Anne’s Society No. 10 was called to order at 1 p.m. on May 20, at St. John’s Hall. President Mary Jane Toddy opened the meeting with prayers for all living members and their families and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 7 members present.

Texas Women’s League Awards $91,500 in Grants

TheTexasWomen’s League held their annual Funding Reception on Wednesday, May 7. The organization awarded $91,500 in grants to 26 local non-profit organizations. The money comes from TWL’s annual Spring Gala, which took place on March 1.
Blinn College Foundation for Alliance for College and Career Student Success received a $3,700 grant. Accepting the award was Susie Shank (right). Presenter was Tiffany Surman (left).

Juneteenth to Be Honored Here

Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation at their meeting last week designating June 19, 2025, as Emancipation Day in Fayette County. Commonly known as Juneteenth, the holiday marks the day in 1865 when Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army arrived in Galveston and ordered the freeing of the enslaved people of Texas.
Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation designating Juneteenth, June 19, as Emancipation Day in Fayette County. The proclamation celebrates the day 1865 when the enslaved people of Texas fi rst learned they were free and had equal rights as their former masters. The text goes on to praise the achievements of Fayette County’s African American citizens.
