4-H Kids Compete at Texas 4-H Roundup

Numerous Fayette County 4-Hers competed in the 2025 Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University in College Station on June 3-5. Texas 4-H Roundup is the pinnacle event for all of Texas 4-H, with senior 4-H members competing in approximately 50 diverse competitions throughout the week-long event.

Ellinger Mayor Proclaims Flag Day

Ellinger Mayor Matt Mikulenka signed a proclamation presented by KJZT Family Life Society 41 of Ellinger designating June 14 as National Flag Day in Ellinger. Mayor Mikulenka and Society members commemorated the history, significance, and symbolism of the American flag as an emblem of freedom, unity, and patriotism and gave honor to the sacrifices of many throughout our country’s history who protected our country’s ideals of liberty and justice.

Czech Heritage Society Holds Annual Piknik

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Tuesday, June 10, in the Hanslik Hall at TCHCC in La Grange for its annual Piknik. The evening began with members and guests socializing, singing Czech songs to the accompaniment of Jimmie Fucik on the accordion, and viewing silent auction items that benefit the CHS scholarship and queen sponsorship fund.

Weimar Library Hosting Disaster Preparedness Program

Friends of the Weimar Public Library and Agri Life of Colorado County will present a Disaster Preparedness Program at the library on July 11 at 10 a.m. Planning for disasters can greatly reduce the risks to our families, homes and communities because often catastrophic events are unexpected.

Tackling Fayette County’s Stray Animal Crisis

Adoptions are down and intake is up at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) in La Grange. This same time frame for 2024, the shelter had taken in 764; an increase of 70 dogs and cats in need in Fayette County.

Exciting Activities Await at Senior Connections

Senior Connections is the gathering place for active seniors in Fayette County, Colorado County, and Lavaca County. Everyone aged 55 and up are welcome to our Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia locations. Doors are open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on program days. Feel free to drop by anytime.
