Candence Bank Completes Acquisition of Local Banks

Cadence Bank announced July 1 the successful completion of its previously announced acquisition of Industry Bancshares, Inc., the bank holding company for Industry State Bank, The First National Bank of Bellville, Fayetteville Bank, Citizens State Bank, The First National Bank of Shiner and Bank of Brenham. Industry Bancshares was merged into Cadence Bank effective July 1, 2025, after receiving all required regulatory and shareholder approvals.

Resources For Successful Living Continues July 15

The topic for July’s “Resources for Successful Living Lunch and Learn” series will be “Reliable & Safe Internet Surfing”. This monthly event will be held on Tuesday, July 15 from 12:05-12:50 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104 in La Grange.

Coal Train Derails Near Power Plant

A Union Pacific (UP) train carrying coal derailed near the Fayette Power Project Monday morning, June 30. About a dozen rail cars and two locomotives came off the tracks around 7:30 a.m.

Local Named UT Exes President

Arleas Upton Kea, native of Schulenburg, is the new President and Chairman of the Board of the Texas Exes, the Alumni Association of the University of Texas in Austin. The alumni association was established in 1885 and now has more than 120,000 members. The Board of Directors of the Association includes graduates of UT, all of whom are recognized in their respective careers in law, business and government.

Fayetteville Lions Club Installs New Officers

The 2025-26 slate of officers for the Fayetteville Lions Club were sworn in last week at the home of Evan and Mary Quiros. They are listed below. The club would like to thank all of these outstanding and capable members for stepping up to the plate and serving our community once again, or for the first time. Kozelsky Makes President’s List At Iowa State

AnaLyn Kozelsky of Flatonia was named to the President’s List at Iowa State University. Students achieving this prestigious designation have maintained a 4.0 GPA for two consecutive semesters. Kozelsky is seeking a B.S. in Public Relations.
