Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever was on hand at a ceremony on Sept. 9 when Governor Greg Abbott signed two important healthcare bills into law.

In just a couple weeks on Saturday Oct. 4 there will be a Fall Round Up at the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church. Beginning at 10 a.m. at the park in downtown Muldoon will be filled with all kinds of fun for the kids and adults alike. There will be a bounce house, all sorts of games for the kids and adults come and win a dessert on the dessert wheel. This is your chance to spin and bring home a delicious homemade dessert or baked goodie. This is a great chance to bring out your kids or grandkids for some good clean family fun. There will be a 50/50 raffle. There also will be a photo booth to make some great fall memories with both your kids and others. Hungry? Plan on eating some good old fashion barbecue. Barbecue plates will be available for $12 each. The live auction will begin at 1 p.m. This will be some great fall fun for everyone in the family. Want to win a really nice Hereford cross heifer? At a special meeting last Thursday, Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a contract between Fayette County EMS and Real Deal Family Reunion. The week prior, County Judge Dan Mueller approved a mass gathering permit for the event, which is scheduled for this weekend, Sept.

The RT-C Booster club is sponsoring its second annual Shrimp Boil fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas is pleased to announce registration is now open for “Community News Writing: A Community Journalism Workshop.” This four-week program is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to contribute meaningful stories to local newspapers as volunteer community journalists.

La Grange Elementary School Paraprofessionals Jessica Ortiz and Monica Lemus created a 20-foot long mum to hang in the cafeteria for Homecoming Week. Substitute Teachers Jenn Schovajsa and Andrea Ortiz also helped create the Texas size mum. La Grange Elementary PTO provided all the supplies for the project which took two weeks to complete. LGISD Maintenance helped hang the mum.

Progressive Health Group CEO Quentin Whitwell along with others from his company came to La Grange this week to begin reopening the former St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC).

Special programs for Texas Heroes Day will take place in La Grange on Saturday, Sept. 20.

September pushed La Grange past the $2 million mark for sales tax revenue this year and Schulenburg past $1 million. For both that means a little more than a 2% increase from this time last year.

Fayette County Commissioners held a public hearing at the meeting last Thursday, Sept. 11, over the property tax rate for next year.
