Resources for Successful Living Continues Oct. 21

The topic for October’s “Resources for Successful Living Lunch and Learn” series will be “Staying in Motion”. This monthly event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 12:05-12:50 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104 in La Grange.

The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Check-in begins at 10:45 a.m. Lunch is available for $20. Program speaker will be Chief Justice Jimmy Blacklock. Chief Justice Blacklock was first appointed to the Supreme Court of Texas in January 2018 by Governor Greg Abbott. Justice Blacklock was elected by the public following his appointment and re-elected in 2024. Governor Abbott then appointed him to serve as the Court’s 28th Chief Justice in January 2025. Before joining the Court, Chief Justice Blacklock served as Governor Abbott’s General Counsel and in the Attorney General’s Office under then-AG Abbott. While at the AG’s Office, he handled appeals and trials of constitutional cases in state and federal court involving matters such as federalism, religious liberty, and the separation of powers. Earlier in his career, Chief Justice Blacklock was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and he worked in private practice in Houston and Austin. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a J.D. from Yale Law School. Also joining will be Senator Mayes Middleton, candidate for Texas Attorney General. Annual Genealogy Workshop Set at LG Archives

In celebration of October as Family History Month, the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in La Grange will again join the Genealogy Network of Texas (GNT) for a series of eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The GNT is a state-wide initiative to connect libraries and provide educational and research opportunities and is spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library.

LG Mayor Encourages Breast Cancer Awareness

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery knows first-hand the struggle of surviving breast cancer. She survived the dreadful disease after a diagnosis in 2022. Accordingly, she’s been a big supporter of women dealing with breast cancer along with their caretakers and loved ones.
La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery invites everyone to wear pink and meet at the library on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event will be from 5-6:30 p.m.

Fun at Oktoberfest in Downtown La Grange

Hundreds of folks (some in full German attire, above) enjoyed themselves in downtown La Grange Saturday at the Rotary’s Club annual Oktoberfest. Dozens of craft beer breweries and even some wineries were represented at the tasting event that also included sausage, pork schnitzel, freshbaked pretzels and music by the Dujka Brothers, left.

The City of La Grange has designated Oct. 10-17 as Fall Cleanup Days. The City will pick up one free load of brush during these days. One load of brush is defined as not more than one pickup truck load. If you have logs, separate them from the branches. Also, make sure there is no trash, no piles of leaves, no lumber, or construction debris mixed in with the brush. The following schedule will be observed: Oct. 10 and 14 - South Side of the city (Travis St. - Hwy. 71 Bus.); Oct. 15 and 16 - North Side of the city; Oct. 17 - Cedar Creek and bypass.
