La Grange High School Class of 1965 Reunites

The 1965 class of La Grange High School held their 60-year reunion on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club. Medicare Open Enrollment can be confusing. To answer questions on what to do whether you are signing up for the first time or re-signing up for the new Medicare year attend one of the two “Medicare 1 on 1” workshops being offered by the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and hosted by Fayette County Committee on Aging, Senior Connections, and the Fayette County AgriLife Extension office.

Program & Book Signing about Fayette Co. Native in World War II Set for this Thursday

As Veterans Day approaches, the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is sponsoring a program and book signing about veteran and Fayette County native, Robert Lee Melcher, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library. Just released in September by Texas A&M University Press, A German Texan in World War II: The Diary, Letters and Memorabilia of an 88th Infantry Officer, was written by his daughter, Marilyn Melcher Maddox, who will be in La Grange to sign copies and tell Melcher’s story.

Community Journalism Workshop – Limited Seats Still Available

The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas announces that registration for its “Community News Writing: A Community Journalism Workshop” is nearing capacity. Interested residents are encouraged to register now to secure their spot in this free, four-week program. The workshop begins Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, and will continue on Nov. 10, Nov. 24, and Dec. 8, meeting from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Schulenburg Public Library, 310 Simpson Street in Schulenburg. League member Elota Patton will serve as Lead Instructor, with Richardson facilitating. The course will feature special guest journalists and educators from South Central Texas who will provide expert guidance and feedback on participants’ work. Zapalac & Dopslauf Awarded 4-H Gold Star Honors

October 14-17, 1975 Milton Koenning of Winchester presented Kenneth Zapalac, a member of the Ellinger 4-H Club and Sharon Dopslauf, a La Grange 4-H’er, with Gold Star awards at the 1975 Fayette County 4-H Achievement Day program. Gold Stars represented the highest honors earned in 4-H.
