Lafayette Masonic Lodge has had a fantastic 2025. Most residents of Fayette County know the Lodge building which stands at the top of the hill on 77 as you head south into town, but few know the quiet work the members have done since 1847. As one of the oldest organizations in Fayette County 2025 saw a continuation of the renaissance we have been enjoying over the last several years.

January started with conferring a Masters Degree on a worthy Brother and sending the largest contingent of members to the Annual Communication in Waco by the Lodge in many, many years. In February we held a Sweetheart social at Maq’s Daqs and it was enjoyed by all in attendance. Spring was capped off with our first Outdoor Masters Degree, which normally there are less than 15 across Texas each year. It took several months of work to get the site ready and the team pulled together. We had 60 people in attendance spread across Masons and their families; a fine barbecue lunch was enjoyed by all in attendance. The Summer is when we hold elections for new officers and hold the annual installation across all the Lodges in the State. Lafayette held an open installation in July and the Installing Master and Marshall came from Houston, and the Knights Templars presented the colors to start the meeting. We had friends, loved ones and Masons from all over in attendance with almost 60 enjoying each other’s company.

Lafayette was presented with a grant from LCRA which kicked off a significant remodel of the building. We made improvements to the interior and exterior of the building as well as replacing all the seating in the gallery in the Lodge room. We worked with Holland Lodge #1 in Houston as they donated 45 theaterstyle seats to the Lodge. From July to September, we were diligently working to complete the upstairs renovations. We are very proud of the progress we have made and are planning to keep working to improve the nearly 100-yearold building.

While working on ourselves and the Lodge we also found ways to give back. We held a drive through dinner to support Books for Bikes, a program in conjunction with La Grange Elementary in the Spring, giving away 12 bikes to end the semester and giving away another group of bikes just a few weeks ago. We are glad to support this important program and look forward to the next drive through dinner and bike giveaway in Spring 2026. We also gave away the Marburger Scholarships in the Spring supporting the youth of La Grange. The Lodge has donated to the High School students for over 30 years. In October we partnered with Combined Community Action to relocate the La Grange Meals on Wheels program into the building. This has been a great partnership, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve. With over 178 years of Masonic influence in Fayette County, we are honored to carry on the tradition our brethren set in motion so many years ago.

The Lodge meets on the first Tuesday of each month with a meal at 6 p.m. and meeting at 7 p.m. at the Lodge on the hill. If you have questions about Masonry, please come to a meal or contact Jeff Messer at (281) 703-8932.
