Senior Connections Kicks Off New Year With Activities, Meals, And Art Programs
Senior Connections invites all seniors aged 55 and older from Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca Counties to join a vibrant community focused on friendship, fun, and nutritious meals. As we step into the New Year, we’re excited to kick off a week filled with engaging activities and delicious food in Schulenburg and Weimar.
Join us at our Schulenburg location (1111 Bohlmann Ave.) starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5. The day begins with spirited games of Dominoes, Tarock, and Sequence, accompanied by hot coffee and lively conversation. At 11:15 a.m., we’ll prepare for a chef’s choice meal, with desserts provided by Diana Chafin. After lunch, don’t miss our member spotlight featuring Frank Lafferty, who will share his inspiring journey and how he connected with Senior Connections. Member Dennis Plocheck will then call our Bingo game, promising an afternoon of excitement.
We will gather at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar (301 W. Saint Charles St.), with doors opening at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Serious Domino players often arrive early to secure their tables. That day’s menu includes stuffed cabbage rolls, house salad with seasonal fruit, and garlic bread, topped off with desserts from our members. Our Lunch and Learn program will feature Rosemary Vasquez from Turbo Joe’s Pizzeria and Café, who will share insights into their business and culinary offerings, as well as how they arrived in Weimar. Join us at 12:30 p.m. for a lively game of Bingo led by Alyssa from First Texas Home Health.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Connie Koopmann will treat us to a hearty chicken noodle soup with crackers and salad. After our meal, we will dive straight into Bingo, with a representative from Savings Bank calling the game—always a highlight of our week.
Mark your calendars for Jan. 9, when we launch a new series of art workshops. Jamie Janda will facilitate the continuing mosaic class, while Fernanda Kirkwood will introduce air-dry clay sculpture techniques. These classes require advance registration due to limited space, and we encourage participants to sign up early to secure their spots. A special thanks to Art for Rural Texas for partnering with us to bring these creative opportunities to our seniors.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the Sock Hop on Feb. 7 at the KC Hall in Schulenburg, a multigenerational event filled with fun, food, and dance competitions, sponsored by all the amazing nonprofits in our area. Whether you choose to don a costume for the contest or sport your silliest socks, there will be something for everyone, including activities for children and competitions for prizes.
