The Schulenburg Festival Association hopes to move forward with this year’s “National Party of Texas,” scheduled to take place July 31 to Aug. 2.

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center will replace the aging roof of a popular amphitheater, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of La Grange.

La Grange Main Street is changing with the times and taking a different spin on Movie Nights on the Square. They have updated their plans to the Fayette County Fairgrounds for a Drive-In movie experience. Yes, you read that right..drive-in movies in Fayette County are coming in June. There is a $5 fee per car and reservations are required as there are only 125 spots available.

Numerous drug arrest were made after Sunday night traffic stops. At 10:32 p.m. Deputy Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Kia Spectra for a traffic violation near the 700 Block of South Kirtley Road. Arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance was 47 year old Tracie Rittman of Smithville. Just after ght Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica near the 1300 block of N. Jefferson St. Arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana were William Mays, 44, and Tammy Jo Linder, 45, both of Marble Falls. At 2 am, Deputy Mack conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica in the parking lot of the Oak Motel in La Grange. Arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance was Larry Busby, 20 of La Grange.

The Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control Branch held its annual statewide “Rabies Awareness & Prevention Poster Contest” for K through 12th grade. St. Rose of Lima students swept the 3rd-5th Division. 1st place winner Jenna Guentert received a $200 gift card, 2nd place winner Anna Oeding received a Fjällräven backpack and 3rd place winner Thomas Neal received a $50 Visa gift card.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, May 13, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Ford F-150 on Interstate 10 at the 665 mile-marker at approximately 11:28 a.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver who was extremely nervous, Thumann became suspicious he was transporting illegal narcotics.

The University of Southern California (USC) is reporting that alcohol sales have surged since the COVID-19 pandemic began, raising concerns among USC experts and others that the bottoms-up binge could come with a social cost.
