Narcotics K-9 Unit Seizes 182 Pounds of Marijuana

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, May 13, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Ford F-150 on Interstate 10 at the 665 mile-marker at approximately 11:28 a.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver who was extremely nervous, Thumann became suspicious he was transporting illegal narcotics.

Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Thumann deployed his canine Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Kolt alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Thumann observed the rear passenger area had four large duffle bags containing large bundles of marijuana. Thumann removed approximately 182 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle with an estimated street value of $ 91,000 dollars. The driver also had a loaded handgun in his possession.

Brian Diaz, 24 of San Antonio, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Diaz was jailed at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
