A Virtual Commencement was held Friday, May 15 for Texas A&M University Kingsville.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be postponing the Multi-County Fruit Tree Field Day in Windale that was scheduled for May 22. This event traditionally is one of the largest fruit tree events in the state annually and therefore we don’t make this decision lightly. We are evaluating our options and will try to reschedule for a fall meeting.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of May 10-17.

Wednesday night was the first of two days of “Supplies and Goodbyes” pick-ups at La Grange Hermes and Intermediate Schools. The staff made it a festive-type atmosphere as teachers were also able to say goodbye to their students. The students and their families drove up to the school and were able to pick up the school supplies and anything else they left behind way back at the end of Spring Break. Students have not been able to return to the buildings since then because of coronavirus precautions. After Governor Abbott announced that summer camps in Texas will be allowed to open this summer as the state allows more businesses to resume operations during the coronavirus pandemic, Fayette County summer camps are deciding what will work best for them.

Member churches of the Tri-County Cooperative Ministries, ELCA had their first “in church” communion services this past Sunday, May 17 at Faith Lutheran Church, Weimar at 10 a.m. and Zion Lutheran Church, Moulton at 10:45 a.m.

On May 14, the second quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4:30 p.m. by teleconference.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church will tentatively resume in-person services on Sunday, May 24 in accordance with State guidelines. Sunday School will not re-open, but Bible Class will resume in-person in the sanctuary. Members 65 and older and those with underlying health conditions are encouraged to continue to worship from their homes.
