KJZT Society No. 31 Meets, State Functions Cancelled

On May 14, the second quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4:30 p.m. by teleconference.

President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers for the needs of the living members, for an end to the pandemic we are experiencing and for three recently deceased members, Angie Matocha, Lambert Lidiak, and Annie Kallus.

Reading of the minutes from the Feb. 13 meeting was dispensed, treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, bills were approved for payment, and seven cards of thanks were read.

Kallus shared an email from District V Director Donna Janda that said all State KJZT Family Life functions have been canceled for the year; the District V annual social scheduled for Sept. 20 hosted by Society No. 20 Cistern and the 100th Anniversary celebrations by Society No. 65 Holman and Society No. 69 Smithville are all “wait and see” the safety of members is top priority and not to stress if your society is unable to have meetings or host projects.

Secretary Marilyn Kothmann shared news from the State KJZT April letter stating that the KJZT Family Life XXXVI Regular General Convention will be held July 23-25, 2021 at the Omni Southpark Hotel in Austin with Delegate Election deadline being Feb. 28, 2021.

KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Joy Kovar showed one special birthday and three sympathies by Society #31 and 15 enrollments by individuals; and the three deceased members were remembered with Mass intentions. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.

State KJZT Junior Division Camp Guardian Angel has been canceled, but their raffle will still take place.

To show support for parishes during these uncertain times, State KJZT Family Life offered 100% matched funds up to $250 of a Society’s donation to their parish during this COVID-19 crisis. Society No. 31 participated and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange received a $500 donation.

For the fraternal year 2019, 65 Status Societies were recognized by State KJZT

Family Life and each of them received $100 for this Fraternal 100 Project. In turn these Societies donate this money to a charity of their choice; and Society No. 31 is making their donation to the AMEN food pantry in La Grange.

The next meeting is planned for August 20 with possibly La Grange Mayor Janet Moerbe being the guest speaker for the KJZT Marshall program.

The teleconference of four officers and two members closed with the Memorare prayer.
