Ellinger Couple Die from Explosion; Cause Determined

Michael and Mazie Hess of Ellinger died Thursday, two days after they were both seriously injured after a massive explosion caused by a propane leak leveled their home. Both Michael, 79, and Mazie, 81, were pulled from the rubble by neighbors and flown by helicopter to Austin where they underwent surgeries, but their injuries ultimately proved to be fatal.

Mendoza Sworn in to Replace Adamcik

Fayette County Commissioners appointed Sylvia Mendoza to serve the unexpired term of the late Fayette County Tax Assessor-Collector Rosalinda Adamcik, who died in office unexpectedly on August 29. Mendoza has worked in the Tax Assessor’s Office for the past five years.

La Grange Main Street will host the 4th annual La Grange Art Stroll on Saturday, September 12 from 3-7 pm on the courthouse square. Over 15 artisans will have their work on display in locations throughout downtown La Grange. Enjoy art and shopping while you stroll through downtown. The BYOB Cooking Team of La Grange (including Charles Schulz, Ron Voss Jr, and Timmy Machala) were crowned Grand Champs at the Fayette County Fair BBQ Cook-Off Sunday. By virtue of their win, they qualify to represent Fayette County as the Go Texan champs at next year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cook off. The BYOB team members, center, were joined by Go Texan officials at the conclusion of Sunday’s awards in La Grange. We’ll have more BBQ winners from the fair cook off in the newspaper next week.
