Since March the Texas Heroes Museum in downtown La Grange had been closed because of pandemic precautions. But for one day, Saturday, the treasured history and artifacts of Texas Heroes that are on display inside the museum – which is housed in the Old Fayette County jail –was open again for a celebratory occasion.

The Texas Quilt Museum gives quilt aficionados two opportunities to see new exhibits and hear more about them –for free. On Saturday, September 26 at 3 pm, noted art quilt collector Frank Klein will speak on avian behavior and showcase his bird photography in conjunction with the exhibit “Flying High: For the Love of Birds.” The exhibit features 41 quilts curated by Museum codirectors Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O’Bryant Puentes.

Two more people from Fayette County died from COVID-19 last week. Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said two deceased were a male and a female both over 80 years old.

The number of unemployment claims in Fayette County rose two weeks in a row after dropping steadily since mid-July. The Texas Workforce Commission reported 30 new claims for the week of Sept.

So far, there have been no known cases of coronavirus among students or staff at Schulenburg and Flatonia ISDs. Schulenburg Superintendent Duane Limbaugh said the school required some students to get tested after temperature checks at school revealed a fever.
