Two COVID Deaths at Long-Term Care Homes
Two more people from Fayette County died from COVID-19 last week.
Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said two deceased were a male and a female both over 80 years old. They both lived in Pct. 1, the La Grange area. Moreau said both of them were residents at local long-term care facilities where a recent coronavirus outbreak infected dozens of residents and staff. He declined to name the facility or facilities where the two people lived.
“They caught it recently and passed away quickly,” Moreau said.
Pct. 1 has had the greatest number of cases in Fayette County: 222 recovered, 14 active cases and 13 probable. But the two deaths last week were the first recorded in Pct. 1 since the pandemic began.
As of Monday morning, Fayette County reported 34 confirmed active cases and 16 probable cases. The two deaths last week brought the County’s coronavirus death count to 10. The County reports 573 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began and 499 people have recovered.
