Schulenburg and Flatonia ISDs Have Avoided COVID

So far, there have been no known cases of coronavirus among students or staff at Schulenburg and Flatonia ISDs.

Schulenburg Superintendent Duane Limbaugh said the school required some students to get tested after temperature checks at school revealed a fever. But none of those students tested positive.

“We’ve had the usual things that happen - kids come in with strep throat, things like that,” said Flatonia Superintendent Dr. Andy Reddock. “If they have any symptoms, they take a test and stay home until they receive a negative test result.”

Both administrators said their schools have policies in place in the event that a student or staff member tests positive. Both schools would team with state and local health officials to track down anyone who has been in close contact. All of those people would be required to quarantine 10 days away from school and get tested. The schools would disinfect areas that the person frequented.

However, neither school has had to do any of those things yet. “It could change in a day,” Reddock said.
