CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of (left to right) Vicki Coleman, Jeff Wahrmund, Abigail Jones and Jennifer Kulka as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) by Judge Benton Eskew on Sept. 22. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA volunteers are screened, highly trained and then appointed by Judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interest in the child protection system. It’s Antiques Show month. The 2020 Fall Antiques Show begins on Thursday, Oct. 15. Show organizers, vendors and all who are involved in planning this event have been monitoring the situation closely, and special safety protocols have been put in place. Show venues have agreed to adopt enhanced health standards for their individual shows to include: mandatory masks for shoppers and dealers when social distancing cannot be achieved, a shopping set up to ease the ability to remain socially distant, capacity limits according to state standards at the time and enhanced hand sanitizing facilities. In April of 2008, Julia Patterson, 18 of Round Top, was just like any other kindergartener. Then, one evening, she was life-flighted to Houston, put on a ventilator, and diagnosed with epilepsy.

The start of October marks the countdown to Halloween and the fun activities, events, and celebrations everyone looks forward to. However, will Halloween this year be a trick or a treat as the CDC puts out their guidelines on how we should celebrate Halloween?

Not all antiques vendors in north Fayette County are happy about the County allowing the Fall Antiques Show to proceed later this month amidst the coronavirus pandemic. “We’ve been closed since March for a very good reason,” said Danny Smith, co-owner of Carmine Antiques.

The La Grange City Council granted a request from Fayette Electric Cooperative to rezone two lots on North Von Minden Road from residential to commercial. The two properties lie next to FEC’s pole yard. FEC General Manager Gary Don Nietsche told the Record Monday that the Coop may eventually move its offices from downtown La Grange to the Von Minden Road property.

Second Chance Emporium recently donated $1,000 to each of the ten volunteer fire departments in Fayette County. Since most of the departments were unable to hold their usual fundraisers this year, support from the community is needed more than ever. Good news over the last few days on the COVID front in Fayette County as recoveries rose and active cases dropped. As of Wednesday, there were 30 active cases and 11 probable cases here.
