RT Council Talks Sidewalks and Dark Skies
The Round Top town council met Monday at the spacious Rifle Hall rather than the much smaller town hall to allow for social distancing and Mayor Barry Bone said it went well. The mayor expressed condolences for the recent passing of Round Top Real Estate cofounder (and councilman Frank Hillbolt’s mother) Charlotte Hillbolt as well as that of Rene Diehl, wife of Pastor Mathew Diehl.
County Changes Direction on Hazard Grant Application
Fayette County had planned to apply for a massive federal hazard mitigation grant to upgrade some low water crossings on county roads. That project has been put on hold for now. Instead, the County will apply for a grant to build a water pipeline to connect public water supply systems around the county.
Trash Fire Spreads in Mullins Prairie
La Grange firefighters put out a small grass fire at property along Mullins Prairie Loop Tuesday. The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. A worker on the property reported that he was burning some trash when the fire spread to surrounding grass. Green foliage on top of the grass concealed a layer of dry vegetation near the ground. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and there were no serious damages. Photo by Andy Behlen
Big Turnout for Early Voting
Tuesday was the first day of in-person early voting in Texas and locals have sure been turning out, with 1,932 in Fayette County voting just in the first two days. Though voters have had to wait in line, many have reported that the wait is not long. Above, the line waiting to vote Monday morning in the courthouse was about 20 people long.
