Quitta Gets First COVID Vaccine Here
“It didn’t hurt at all” was the reaction of Laurie Quitta, Nurse Director of the Medical Surgical Unit of St. Marks Medical Center. Laurie has served as a nurse in our county for four decades, and was chosen to receive the very first COVID-19 vaccine administered within the county. Debbie Hinkley, the Employee Health Nurse, was chosen administer the vaccine. “She’s known be the best at giving shots,” was the testimony of her coworkers.
Natural Gas Leak At Well Site
A major natural gas leak occurred Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, at a well site in the area of Shumacher Rd and Kasmiersky Rd in the Ellinger area. Residents in the area were asked to evacuate and, because of winds blowing North, people living within three miles north of the site were also asked to evacuate. FM 955 was closed to all from Highway 71 to Fayetteville. One resident in the area said this site has “especially horrible the last few weeks. Very loud production. It sounds like a freight train idling outside your door all night long.” Responders from as far away as Hays County assisted at the scene. Cases Here Hovering Near Triple-Digits
The number of people in Fayette County that have recovered from the coronavirus keeps rising, but the number of active/ probable cases has kept hovering near the triple digit mark all month as new cases arise as quickly as old ones come off the rolls. As of Sunday night Fayette County officials were reporting 25 active cases and 70 probable cases.
