NVCC Recognizes Tom Muras for Service

The Navidad Valley Community Connections Center remains closed for now. NVCC is working on providing the safest place, outside of their own home, where members can come in and feel safe. Strong protocols will remain in place, with the added layer of the verbal screening, no exceptions.

While gathering feedback from members on activities that interest them, there are some who are interested in starting a walking group. Others think that stretching and encouraging movement of any type would be beneficial for all. Members will be able to join outside some days at the pavilion, on the flat surface, to get some sunshine on their skin and some fresh air in their chests.

This week NVCC had the pleasure of spending time with Tom Muras, who served on the NVCC board for several years, and who was on the Commissioners Court and served Fayette County for many years as well. Tom recently left the board of directors when his term expired. NVCC wanted to show our appreciation for him sharing some of his precious time, talent, and treasure with all. Glenda Stavinoha, another board member, listened while Tom told “school bus stories” from his growing up years in the area – another great example of the richness of life in our area in this great big world. He told of getting to his seat on the bus and watching with such a longing in his heart as his father walked out to barn to get started with the work of the day and all he could think about was how he wished his could just stay and work with his dad. He thought his dad was the luckiest person in the world because he got to stay home and work. Yep, we are so rich in many things that you can’t even hold in your hands. Strong family values, good hard work, and a good heart will get you far down the road of life but you got to stick with them.

Navidad Valley Community Connections is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a mission “to provide a multipurpose organization that initiates, sponsors and promotes events, activities, and projects which enhance the quality of life for older adults in Schulenburg and the surrounding communities.” NVCC is located right next door to the Boys & Girls Club in Wolter’s Park.
