The Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District opened its office back up on Jan. 4.

Some residents in northern Lee County living near a massive water pumping station are reporting water wells going dry. The problem shouldn’t affect most water wells in Fayette County, at least for now, according to David Van Dresar, general manager of the Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reports the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Jan. 10-17.

Weddings are always a special event and celebration customs have changed over the years. Early wedding celebrations were longer than they are today and were celebrated by the entire community. A couple’s intent to be married was announced in church three times before the actual day of the ceremony. This was done so that anyone that knew of a reason why the marriage should not take place could come forward and state their objection. Many weddings were held in the fall after the harvest and generally lasted for three days.

Plans for the first annual Texas Blacksmith Conference and the Hume L. Baker Texas Antique Gas Engine Reunion have been finalized. The events will be held Jan. 29-30 at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center (TCHCC) Village grounds in La Grange, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

The Blinn College District has named 2,486 students to its academic honors lists for the Fall 2020 semester. Blinn named 1,112 students to its Chancellor’s Scholars List, including 585 with 4.0 grade point averages.
